Chinese Government Scholarship Government of China, in collaboration with the Government of India has taken an initiative for the Chinese Government Scholarship 2021 for Indian students. This scholarship provides financial assistance to students, scholars and teachers to pursue their studies at undergraduate, master, doctoral, general scholar and senior scholar levels. Students under this Scholarship program, can pursue their studies in different academic programs in the field of engineering, science, agriculture, economics, medicine, legal studies, education, management, history, philosophy, literature, and fine arts.

There are almost 289 designated universities in China which students can opt to pursue their studies under Chinese Government Scholarship scheme. The eligibility criteria, rewards, age limitation varies as per the course/ level of study. Interested students need to fill the form through MHRD portal and Chinese Scholarship Council portal. Chinese Government Scholarship 2021 – Comprehensive Details

In India, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Department of Higher Education, Government of India, looks after the selection of students for Chinese government scholarship every year. However, in China, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) assigned by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the MOE) is responsible for enrolment and administration of the Chinese government scholarship programs.

The main objective of the scholarship is to promote mutual understanding, exchange and cooperation between the two countries. Chinese Government Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who are willing to fill the form of Chinese Government Scholarship are required to check the following eligibility criteria. Other Criterion

  • Those candidates who have been abroad for the purpose of study / research / training, for a scholarship or for a period of more than six months on their own, are eligible to apply only if they have resided in India for at least two years. Chinese Government Scholarship – Documents Required

Candidates should keep some important documents available to them before applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship 2021. Following are the documents that candidates need to upload while filling the application form.

  • Scanned and self-attested copy of marksheets, degrees, certificates, diplomas, etc.
  • The official interpretation adopted by the institute / university along with the mark-sheet / degree where grade is mentioned, needs to be uploaded.
  • Self-attested copy of class 10 certificate (as proof of date of birth).

Note – Candidates should ensure that the size of documents should be less than 530 KB. Also all documents uploaded must be in .pdf format. Students can zip a document if they need to upload more than one document in one place.

 Following are the documents that need to be uploaded while filling the application form on CSC portal

  • Academic transcripts.
  • Research proposal or a study plan in more than 200 words (for undergraduate students), 500 words (for non-degree students) and 800 words (for graduate students).
  • Two letters of recommendation signed by associate professors or professors (applicable to undergraduate programs or senior scholar programs).
  • CD of works (applicable to art students only).
  • Pre-admission letter (if available).
  • Copy of HSK certificate (if available)

Note – All these documents should be in either English language or Chinese language.

Chinese Government Scholarship – Application Procedure

Candidates who are interested in filling up the application form of Chinese Government Scholarship can fill it through online mode. All the eligible candidates need to apply through their respective dispatching authorities. As far as Indian students are concerned, MHRD plays the role of dispatching authority for them. MHRD has its own portal, namely Sakshat, through which it invites online applications from the eligible students and thereafter shortlists the final nominees. Moreover, the candidates are also required to apply through the CSC (China Scholarship Council) portal. Read below to know the complete step by step procedure of filling up the application form.

  • First of all, you have to go to the official website of Sakshat portal of MHRD, where the homepage of the website will open in front of you on your screen.

  • On the homepage you have to select the scholarship you wish to apply for and click on “Apply” option.
  • Now, enter all the required details including your personal details, academic details and other important information.
  • After filling up all the information, you need to upload the required documents.
  • Finally, you need to submit your application form.
  • Once you are done with submitting your online application form on Sakshat portal, then you need to visit the portal of the Chinese Scholarship Council, now the homepage of the website will open on your screen.
  • On the homepage of the website, you have to click on the option of “Student Registration” to create your account with your email. (Remember to provide active E- mail ID)
  • After successfully registering yourself, activate your account through the link provided on your registered email id.
  • Once your account is activated, log in into it using your username and password.
  • Before proceeding further to apply online, read all the instructions carefully.
  • Fill in all required information.
  • Then upload all the supporting documents.
  • At last, submit your application form.

Note – The candidates need not to send any hard copy of the application form to the provider.

Chinese Government Scholarship – Selection Process

After receiving recommendations from MHRD, the final selection of candidates is made by the Chinese government. Based on the following criteria set by MHRD, shortlist the most qualified candidates for officers for nomination for scholars –

  • If a student is interested in a graduate program, a merit list is prepared on the basis of his / her class 10 and 12 marks. There is 20% weightage in marks obtained in class 10 and 80% weightage in marks obtained in class 12th.
  • If a candidate applies for a Master, PhD, General Scholar or Senior Scholar program, the merit list is prepared by giving significant weightage to institutions of national importance / centrally funded educational institutions and NAAC accredited institutions from which the applicant has completed or is following the work. Aptitude test.

Note – Candidates who have a pre-admit card will be placed in their host university, while students who do not have a pre-admission letter, can accept the placement of the university offered by CSC.

Chinese Government Scholarship – Terms and Conditions

If you want to enjoy the benefits of Chinese government scholarship, then you also have to follow the terms and conditions set by the Chinese government –

  • Candidates are required to study a Chinese language course for approximately one year before beginning their study in a relevant subject in the Chinese language.
  • If any student wants to study in China then they have to study in Chinese language.
  • Employed candidates should give assurance from their employers that they have been given sufficient leaves for the period of study in China.
  • Candidates should not involve themselves in any form of publicity or suppression of any fact while applying for the scholarship as it may lead to their disqualification.
  • It is expected that students have sufficient knowledge about the geographical location, heritage and culture of China before beginning their studies.
  • Candidates should ensure that they provide email as they work, as all future communications will be done only through their registered email.

Chinese Government Scholarship – Award

Under the Chinese government scholarship, a total of 39 slots are available for students. On the one hand the Government of India only covers the air route of the international route for travel from China to India, but on the other hand the Government of China offers many other benefits for selected scholars. The Chinese government scholarship includes both a full scholarship and partial scholarship coverage. Awards for full scholarship and partial scholarship are different. A detailed description of the financial assistance provided by the Chinese government is given below –

Full Scholarship

A full scholarship includes the following –

  • Tuition fee waiver that covers the costs of education, administration and other expenses that support student activities.
  • Accommodation includes a free university hostel or a housing subsidy of CNY 1,000 per month.
  • Monthly stipend of CNY 2,500 for undergraduate students, CNY 3,000 for master and general scholars, and CNY 3,500 for doctoral and senior scholars.
  • Additionally, full scholarship also includes full medical insurance.

Partial Scholarship
